Djibouti's national carrier Djibouti Air made its inaugural flight to Dubai yesterday evening.
The new airline is owned by the Djibouti government and the UAE's Lootah Group with  Ebrahim Saeed Lootah, chairman of the real estate and construction group as a board member and majority shareholder in the airline.
the airline will fly six-weekly flights from Djibouti to Dubai.
According to UAE newspaper Gulf News, airline chief executive Shabab Attarzadeh has signed contracts for a third Boeing 737 to join his fleet. Djibouti Air will be competing on cost and features  a two-class configuration of Business and Economy class.
Arabian Aerospace reported earlier that within the first six-months, the carrier is planning to  launch flights to Ethiopia, Somalia, Yemen and Kenya.
"Dubai is a very important market for us. We're connecting remote areas of Africa to Dubai, which in turn connects them to the rest of the world," said Attarzadeh.
