Somalia: Lawmakers seek asylum in Europe

About twenty Somali lawmakers have reportedly sought asylum in some countries in Europe after they fled from Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia where rebels and government soldiers are fighting.

Sources say legislators including, Moalim Jiis, Gurow, and other fifteen parliamentarians have reached European countries in recent days and asked for asylum.

The move comes as the fighting between government soldiers backed by the African Union Troops and the Islamist rebels is escalating day after day after day.

It was only Thursday when 30 civilians were killed and 70 others were wounded in Bakaro market in Mogadishu when rebel militants and AU troops exchanged heavy mortars in Mogadishu.

The businesspeople in Mogadishu started to transport their properties from the market and move to safer towns in the country.

The Somali lawmakers fled from the capital when assassinations against them started in Mogadishu in May this year. The rebels captured temporary centre of the parliament in north Mogadishu and target mortars when ever the MPs try to meet in Mogadishu.
