MOGADISHU (Mareeg)—The Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) rebels claimed Wednesday victory over fighting with Ethiopian government soldiers and say they killed hundred soldiers.
Hussein Mohamed Nur, the secretary information of the rebels says their fighters fought fierce fighting with the Ethiopian soldiers in eastern Ethiopian inhabited by Somalis.
Mr. Nur also claimed they captured Ethiopian commanders alive and denied the reports saying officials from their rebels defected to the Ethiopian government.
There is no word from the Ethiopian government about the claim of the ONLF.
ONLF rebels are fighting for the independence of the region inhabited by the Somalis in eastern Ethiopia. Human rights organizations accuse the Ethiopian soldiers of violating the human rights by harassing the people in the region.
