Somalia: Moderate Islamists seize vehicle loaded with explosives

OGADISHU (Mareeg)—Officials from Ahlu Sunna Walama’a moderate Islamist group said Monday they seized a vehicle filled with explosives in central Somalia.

Sheik Abdirisak Al Ashari, the spokesman of Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a said they captured the car with four men who he said were planning to attack explosives in towns in Galgadud region in central Somalia controlled by Ahlu Sunna.

“Our security forces captured a vehicle loaded with explosives and the men were planning to undermine the peace in region,” Ashari told reporters.

An Islamic court under the control of Ahlu Sunna sentenced four men accused of wrecking havoc in the region one year for each man in prison.

Ahlu Sunna Waljama’a and al Shabaab have been fighting in central Somalia towns since the withdrawal of the Ethiopian troops in January 2009.
