FOLLOWING reported threats by the members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect to extend their onslaught to notable federal universities in country, security has been placed on the red alert at the University of Nigeria.

Our correspondent who visited the two campuses of the University at Enugu and Nsukka yesterday observed that both the staff and the students were having hectic time before they are allowed entrance into the institution.

Anti bomb-squad and other security agents engaged in serious screening of all the vehicles, and individuals before they were allowed into the two campuses.

A top member of the university security who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that the university had to put up such measure in order to avert possible attack from the Boko Haram or any other group in the country.

‘You know that not long ago, Boko Haram issued threat that they will start bombing universities and of course you are also aware that this is a premier university. So, we don’t want to be taken unawares. What we are doing here is to be proactive.

‘We are also aware that people are passing through a little hard time because of the delays as a result of the security checks by the anti-bomb squad but they should bear with us. It is better people are delayed than a situation where a security lapse will make these people carry out their threat,’ he said.
