Concerned Minnesota Somalis will hold a Rally in Support Of the Mass Uprisings in Mogadishu Somalia and Elsewhere in the World in Defense of Mohamed Farmajo’s Principled Stand against the Kampala Accord

Minneapolis, MN – Community leaders from a cross-section of the community who met in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 11, 2011 are hosting a rally in support of Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Abdillahi Farmajo’s principled stand against the Kampala Accord. The Kampala Accord, a pact “midwifed” by President Yuweri Museveni of Uganda and signed by the Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden, respectively, the president of Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and the Speaker of the Transitional Parliament, defers “elections of the President and the Speaker and his deputies for twelve months after August, 2011 in order to adequately prepare and complete priority transitional tasks.   The accord also stipulates that Prime Minister Farmajo resign from his position.
These concerned Minnesota Somalis are calling on all their fellow countrymen in Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota to participate in this rally:
·         To support Somalia’s current government headed by Premier Farmajo
·         To support the uprising and will of Somalis inside the county and Diaspora communities.
·         To oppose the misguided and destructive  Kampala Accord
·            To denounce Augustine Mahiga’s (Special Representative of the Secretary General) misdirected interference in Somalia’s internal affairs and the efforts of its people to forge peace and good governance in their country.

The rally has been necessitated by the tangible progress made in the last six months by the Farmajo Government, especially in its war against Al-Shabaab. The uprisings in support of the government, the consistent chicanery of Somali politicians, and with the exception of the United States, the lackadaisical attitude of the international community to the blight of Somalis, have also motivated the community to action. It appalls the Somali community that the International Community always takes the least fruitful path to peace and good governance in Somalia.

The rally, scheduled for Friday,  June 17, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the North side of Peavey Field ( crossing of Chicago and Franklin), will feature prominent speakers from the community and its supporters.
