Somaliland: Dahabshiil CEO Attends International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) Seminar in Rome

HARGEISA (Somalilandpress)-Dahabshiil Company CEO Mr. Abdirashid Duale who has just returned from Rome after attending a seminar sponsored by International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) which he was officially invited to attend by the organizer. Mr. Duale briefed the local press today at his office in Hargeisa by first enlighten the press on the theme of the conference which was “the role expatriates can play in the development of their countries”. He said the conference was organized by (IFAD) International Fund for Agricultural Development Combats rural hunger and poverty in developing countries through low-interest loans and direct assistance. It was discussed the huge role expatriates can play when it comes to the investment they implement in their countries be it farming and rural development.
 Speaking on this issue Mr. Abdirashiid said, “expatriates take the lions share regarding the progress of their countries be it investments, business, creating employment and crafts opportunities, farming development, backing poor families and the fight against poverty.”
The number of expatriates is estimated to be around 215 million people. Survey conducted revealed that for the last forty five years, the number of expatriates leaving their native counties tripled.
By 2010, expatriates invested 325 billion dollars to their countries of origin by the use of remittance, investments, business, tourism and aid. At the same time Somali expatriates living in overseas play huge role in helping their people by remitting each year funds greater than compared to the combination of all aid and foreign investment that the world gives to Somalia.
Mr. Abdirashiid Duale further said that the biggest company the transfer of remittance possible is Dahabshiil Group which is an international company that operates more than one hundred fifty countries around the world. He said.”Dahabshiil made its services available to remote rural areas both for farmers and nomadic and can receive their remittance fast, investment provided by organizations, and internally displaced people in their camps. He said that it encourages micro economy to poor families be it farming, small trading posts, women crafting, and students, education, health and other social services.”
