Somalia – Federal Parliament is soon to recruit up to forty local graduates as part of a program to train and mentor bright and motivated graduates to work and assist the Parliament in its important law making, representation and oversight functions.
Most of the unemployed local graduates, I met were over the moon not only on the news that  graduates are to be recruited for the parliament but more so, on the transparency and the merit- based recruitment process Speaker Mohamed Jawari has pioneered.
Mr. Ali, a 25 year old graduate who was on the lookout for work for the past two years said “I have never thought that I will ever get the chance to apply for a job in the civil service in a fair manner because it was reserved only to those connected to Ministers and big people irrespective of their suitability for the posts.” Another graduate by the name of Mr. Mahad who was raised by a single mother that sells bread on the streets surprised me even more when he said “I see that the Somali nationalism is taking root when I learned that the prospective applicants from all regions of Somalia are to apply for the same positions over the net through the legitimate civil service commission.”Continued
