Being an investigative journalist, myself, who has been following the eventful story of my colleague Mr. Abdiaziz Abdinuur, was taken aback by the premature and not well thought of press release from the supposedly prestigious organization that stands for the noble cause of protecting the journalists. Reflecting on the reigning journalistic freedom environment in Mogadishu, I would confidently write that it borders to outright madness and is yearning for regulators to step in. The FM radios in Mogadishu walk away with murder – they often spread lies and defame people without the fear of any penality.
Sure some journalists were imprisoned for trivial misdemeanors, others were put behind bars for short time for rubbing shoulders with the law, and some absconded but never one member of the family of the journalists was ever implicated in a serious case as being a member of crime syndicate - Mr. Abdiaziz Abdinuur’s accusation unfortunately falls in to a serious category.
