Korean Peninsula – Seoul Opens Reunification Committee
Korean Peninsula – Seoul Opens Reunification Committee: The President of South Korea, Park Geun-Hye announced (25.02.2014 – Seoul) the creation of a Reunification Committee. According to the statement, made on television on the day of his first anniversary since her election one year ago, the intent is to create a blueprint for the reunification with North Korea, with the intent of expanding dialogue and direct exchanges with the DPRK officials. As media sources confirm, both Koreas maintain the same goal of reunification, but greatly disagree on the terms and conditions. The committee is also due to evaluate the financial costs of the proposals, which the ROK Finance Ministry has estimated to be 7% of national GDP (in consideration that ROK salaries are 18 times greater than in DPRK, and that the Gross National Income of South Korea is 38 times that of the North).
