Turkey – Missile Defence System Acquisition to Finalise with China: The Turkish Under-Secretary of State for Defence Industry – Murad Bayar, confirmed to the media (27.02.2014 – Ankara) that Turkey is willing to finalise a military acquisition contract with China by April 2014, regarding the provision of a missile defence system named FD-2000. Competitors that lost the bid include Italian/French consortium SAMP/T and US Raytheon. The issue emerging from the news relates to the potential main contractor, CPMIEC, which was hit by US sanctions as it was involved in selling military equipments to Syria, Iran and North Korea.
