Pedestrian hit by police car in South Shields dies

A pedestrian has died after he was hit by a police car in South Shields.
The 52-year-old man, who has not been named, was taken to South Tyneside Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Two officers, including the driver, were also taken to hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be serious.
Northumbria Police said the crash happened at about 22:30 GMT in Whiteleas Way. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has been informed.
Officers are in the process of informing the man's family
