Somalia: Puntland Islamic scholars hold conference on Al Shabaab

BOSSASO, Somalia Jan 8 2012 (Garowe Online) - Puntland's islamic scholars have held a conference in the commercial capital Bossaso, blaming Al Shabaab for spilling blood of many Somalis, Radio Garowe reports.

The scholars held the meeting in Masjid Al Rowda where many hundreds gathered to hear Sheikh Abdiqadir Nur Farah speak on Al Shabaab's ideology and how their thinking is detrimental to Puntland's society.

Sheikh Abdiqadir Nur Farah told the audience if Al Shabaab was fighting for Somalis then why would they kill our most prominent scholars. Sheikh Abdiqadir was speaking about the killing of Sheikh Ahmed Haji Abdirahman who was gunned down near his home, after
investigations 7 Al Shabaab linked men were arrested.

Their has been an outpouring of support for the scholars who are opposed to Al Shabaab's terror. More scholars are speaking out against the actions of Al Shabaab and informing people that Al Shabaab's beliefs are unethical.

The conference opened Saturday and will run for three more days with some of the biggest scholars in Somalia attending and lecturing such as Sheikh Dahir Aw-Abdi and Sheikh Ahmed Abdisamed.
