Two thieves, who used to target taxi drivers working on late shifts, were taken into custody in Sharjah.
The two Arab suspects have been arrested by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Sharjah Police.
Unveiling the details about the case, Colonel Ibrahim Mussabah Al Ajel, Director of the department said that the two Arab suspects allegedly used to ask the taxi drivers to drop them at a certain location. Then one of them would sit on the front seat while the other on the back seat.
On reaching the destination, the suspect sitting behind would allegedly strangle the driver while the other sitting on the front seat would steal his wallet.
A security team was formed to launch a probe as all the robberies were found to be following the same modus operandi.
Suspicion revolved around an Arab national who was interrogated and later confessed to attacking and robbing taxi drivers.
The suspect led the police to the whereabouts of the other suspect, who was later arrested.
The taxi drivers, who were victims of the robberies, confirmed that they were the ones who attacked them.
It was also found out that one of the suspects was illegally staying in the country while the second suspect entered the country on a visit visa two months ago.
The suspects confessed that they used to rob around Dh500 to Dh1,000 from each taxi driver.
They will soon be referred to the Public Prosecution.
