Will the north vote Museveni this time or Besigye again?

While campaigning in West Nile last week, NRM president candidate Yoweri Museveni said he was convinced the people in the sub-region would vote him in 2011 unlike before. The NRM has put a lot of emphasis on capturing the northern region where the opposition has been defeating President Museveni.


The NRM government has given out new districts, given donations to cultural leaders, and compensated former soldiers in the area in a bid to win the people’s support.
The FDC vice president for Northern Uganda Prof. Ogenga Latigo remains defiant. He says all this is wasted energy that will not swing the local people’s support to the NRM.
“We don’t like being bribed,” Latigo says referring to people of northern Uganda. He says they don’t vote personalities but honesty, freedom and fair play values which NRM has failed to show. He said that they vote FDC’s Dr Kizza Besigye, even when he is from the same western region like Museveni, because they believe he represents their aspirations.Read More
