Somali community's message to Raila Odinga

– Raila Odinga met members of the Somali community a day after meeting opinion leaders from Tana River county in what could be seen as solidifying his political base ahead of 2017
– The CORD leader has hit the ground running after returning from a one week tour of Europe from where he launched a scathing attack against Kenya and the African Union for bungling the ICC cases
– Top on the list of complaints by the Somali community members was harassment from Kenya’s security forces especially at the height of the fight against terrorism in the county
Members o the Somali community living in Kenya met opposition chief Raila Odinga on Tuesday, April, 19 and lamented of constant harassment from the national government.
A day after Raila Odinga held a similar meeting with opinion leaders from Tana River county, the opposition leader sought to endear himself to the North Eastern-based voting population ahead of the 2017 General Election.
“The Somali community says it has for long been oppressed and now want to be liberated. They accused the government of neglecting them and refusing to listen to them and address their plight,” read a statement from Odinga’s communication team.
The opposition chief was accompanied by former deputy speaker Farah Maalimu, Turkan county Governor Josphat Nanok and ODM Director of Elections Junet Mohammed.
Raila Odinga flew back to the country on Sunday,April, 17 a day after Uhuru Kenyatta led his supporters to a thanksgiving ceremony for the end of ICC cases.
While in France, Raila hit out at Kenya and the African Union for literally blackmailing the ICC to drop charges against Kenyans who were named as bearing the greatest responsibility in the post-election violence of 2007/08.
Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto however reacted angrily to Raila’s claims saying he wanted to politically benefit from their predicament at the ICC.
