The Virginia man who threatened South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone online for mocking the Prophet Muhammad was sentenced Thursday, Feb. 24 to 25 years in prison.
In an FBI interview from 2009, Chesser admitted to corresponding with al-Shabab members and expected to undergo a six-week basic training and then serve as a "foreign fighter" with al-Shabab in Mogadishu. The al-Shabab terror group has been linked to Al Qaeda.
Chesser posted a threat on a Muslim website that Trey Parker and Matt Stone could face the same fate as Dutch filmmaker, Theo van Gogh, who was killed after making a movie about a woman who rejected Muhammad's teachings. In the South Park episode, Muhammad was wearing a bear costume.
Chesser says he has renounced violence and is sorry for what he did.
