RIYADH: Several government agencies gathered Tuesday for a two-day workshop to discuss a plan for emergencies this Haj season, including to deal with fire, rain, industrial, natural and man-made disasters.
Discussions would include a focus on events that took place last year in Makkah and the holy sites, to learn lessons that can be incorporated into the new plan, according to Gen. Sulaiman bin Abdullah Al-Amr, director general of the Civil Defense in Madinah.
Al-Amr said it was vital to ensure proper coordination between all bodies deployed for the upcoming Haj season to minimize and eliminate as many risks as possible. The main aim was to provide comfort and quality services for pilgrims, he said.
He said the discussions were ordered by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif, deputy premier and interior minister. Those in attendance included representatives of the Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques.
