The horrors of being sick in Somalia

People including a mother with a sick boy wait to be seen at a clinic in Mogadishu. A few hours after this photo was taken, terrorists attacked the clinic with a mortar.But Somalia’s unending war and the targeting of foreigners has forced all but a few aid groups to pull out. A Human Rights Watch report released on Monday called Somalia “one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.”

Some of the mothers had walked from the port town of Kismayo with their sick children. That’s nearly 500 kilometres to Mogadishu, across dangerous, unforgiving terrain.
