Ethiopia Revokes Five Civil Society Organizations’ License

Charities and Societies Agency of Ethiopia revokes licenses of five civil societies in six months for violating the country’s rules, the agency noted.

Briefing media in his office yesterday morning (February 17, 2011), the agency’s director Ali Siraj, in his report noted that the license of the civil societies is revoked because they violated the country’s rules and regulation, which includes not paying tax of their employees.

His report shows that license of Samaritan’s Purse is revoked because the organization smuggled 14 foreigners to Ethiopia without any working or living licenses and employed them for three years. As a result, the employees haven’t paid 7 million birr (around 420,000 US dollars at the current exchange rate) tax to the country.Read More
