Four toddlers die of malnutrition in southern Somalia

Thus, a lot of herders with livestock reached in the capital Mogadishu after they failed to endure the drought so longer. Under the shadows of the streets, there are many women, children are sitting there, and they are in need for urgent help from aid agencies.

Four toddlers from the lower Shabelle region have become the latest victims as a drought in south-central Somalia continues to intensify. All four of the children were under the age of five, according to Osman Sheikh Nur, an elderly man in the village of Belet al amin. Nur says some parts of the country have not received any rain for more that three years.
clearpxl “Both the people and domestic animals are on the brink of dying of hunger and thirst as wells, lagoons and rivers run dry in the last few years” Nur lamented.
Last month, 10 children under the age of five died of hunger and thirst in the Mudug region of central Somalia.
More and more, herders with livestock are headed for Mogadishu to try and reach water. Sitting under shade out in the city street, there are now many women and children in the capital in desperate need of help from aid agencies.Read More
