JOHANNESBURG - A raid by South African police on a Nigerian terror suspect's jail cell yielded eight mobile phones, according to police who said Thursday that they don't want Henry Okah communicating with the outside world.
Police spokesman McIntosh Polela said jail officials raided Henry Okah's cell earlier this week after police received information he was making unauthorized calls. Jail officials confiscated eight cellphones and other items Polela said he was not authorized to describe.
Polela said prisoners are not allowed cellphones.
"Mr. Henry Okah should not be communicating with people from outside, because the investigation is at a very sensitive stage," Polela said.
Okah's lawyer did not return a call from The Associated Press on Thursday.
Okah is awaiting trial after being arrested in Johannesburg and linked to deadly bombings in Nigeria's capital during October independence celebrations.
Okah has denied involvement in the bombings in calls from jail to the AP and other news organizations
