US Embassy donates books to Makerere’s journalism department

The Department of Journalism and Communication (DJC) book bank is richer following a book donation from the United States Embassy recently.
Ms. Dorothy Nanyonga, Information Assistant at the U.S Embassy, handed the books to Mrs. Marjorie Niyitegeka, DJC Coordinator recently. The titles, published by the US Department of State, Bureau of International Information Programs include An Unfettered Press, A Handbook of Independent Journalism, A Responsible Press Officer and An Insider's Guide-Media Law.
DJC and the US Embassy have a long standing partnership aimed at ensuring high quality teaching and training of students in the Department. In the past, the US embassy has supported the Department in staff development through the award of Fulbright scholarships for doctoral and masters studies, and short courses. Other support to DJC has been in the form of Fulbright visiting professors, previous book donations, facilitation of students’ work exhibitions and equipment for the Department-run radio, Campus Fm.
At the 63rd graduation, the Department of Journalism and Communication has had a total of 106 graduands including 88 students graduating with a B. Mass Communication, 6 students with M.A in Journalism and Communication, 9 students with PGD Investigative Journalism and 3 students with PGD Mass Communication.
