Police: Gunmen kidnap foreigner in north Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — Police say gunmen have kidnapped a foreigner in the northern Somali town of Galkayo.
Policeman Abdi Hassan Nur says he saw the gunmen surround the white foreigner's car shortly after the man left the airport on Saturday afternoon. He says they then forced the foreigner into another vehicle.
Galkayo is on the border between the semiautonomous northern region of Puntland and a region known as Galmudug. It is ruled by a militia friendly to the U.N.-backed Somali government.
A minister from the Galmudug administration said the kidnapped man is an engineer who came to Somalia to carry out an evaluation for building a deep water port in the town of Hobyo.
The minister declined to be named because he was not authorized to speak to the press.
