Uganda: Al Shabab Recruiting From East Africa To Bolster Ranks

KAMPALA Uganda (Dow Jones)-Somalia-based al Shabab militants have resorted to a massive recruitment exercise targeting East Africans, the Ugandan Inspector General of Police said Tuesday.
Major General Kale Kayihura told reporters that the recruitment drive is in preparation for more terror attacks in Uganda, Kenya and Burundi using East Africans, who may be better able to evade detection.
"They are aware that it's easier to identify a Somali and they are now recruiting East Africans," he said. "Following the terror attacks on July 11 in Kampala, and now the grenade explosion in Nairobi on a Kampala bound coach, there is a possibility that these terror groups may attempt to repeat their diabolical plans on the country," he added.
Kayihura said the attack in Nairobi is linked to the al Qaeda inspired al shabab militants who claimed responsibility for the July 11 attacks that left at least 79 people dead. On Monday, an explosion on Kampala bound bus left 2 dead and at least 26 injured.Read More
