Surinder Hundle, the dental surgeon on television makeover show 10 Years Younger and the former face of Oral B toothpaste, denies having sex with the schoolteacher in his central London clinic.
The 44-year-old also denies having made inappropriate remarks to the woman, known as Patient A, during consultations before the affair began. He is alleged to have commented: "I wonder what it would be like to kiss that mouth?" and "I bet you have a great sex life."
Dr Hundle told the General Dental Council that the loss of his twins "broke" him and that when his patient showed sympathy the pair began a sexual relationship.
He said: "She was a good listener. We would talk sometimes on the phone, we texted. She was giving me some kind of support."
He denies having sex with her at the Lund Osler clinic he set up in Knightsbridge, however, instead saying they first met at his home after she sent him a text message saying she would "always be there for support".
Dr Hundle, who faces being struck off over the affair, admitted realising with hindsight it was wrong to be in such a relationship with his patient.
The dentist, who had married in 2002 but is now divorced, told the hearing: "With everything going on in my life, in hindsight now - and hindsight is a great thing - at the time I had so much emotion, I was totally broken.
He said he later told Patient A, who claims they had sex at least 30 times between 2006 and 2008, they should not see each other but that she said there was no problem as they were both adults, telling him: "This is what I want."
Dr Hundle accepts his behaviour was inappropriate but not that it was an abuse of his professional position or sexually motivated.
