Mogadishu (RBC) nearly one senior Al Shabab member has died and eight others wounded after a bomb explosion was targeted a mosque in Elasha biyaha on Mogadishu outskirts on Friday night.
Residents told RBC Radio they heard big explosion about 7.p.m local time at the mosque named “Sheikh Rufa’I mosque” where Al Shabab officials always address the people. The explosion was a hand grenade thrown inside the mosque.
There was religious addressing at the time of explosion and senior Al Shabab officials were in the mosque, local resident told in a condition of anonymity.
A health official also confirmed the wounded were mostly local people who came in to the mosque for evening (Isha) prayer.
Several persons in the area were detained by Islamist fighters after the blast and taken to nearby custody.
The Shabab officials did not comment on the bomb blast.
Elasha biyaha is a home to nearly 2.4 million of displaced people from the violence in Mogadishu, and is under Al Shabab’s control.
Al Shabab fighters have started to forcibly collect the teenagers from the area to fight for them while many parents fled with their children. Some locals say the explosion could be the sign of the growing bad-temper of the local population un willing Al Shabab’s behavior.
