Somalia: Govt Officials - We Have Never Been Paid By the Government


Belet-Hawo — Some of Somali transitional federal government military officials complained about non payment of wages for many years.
Abdi Barre, a spokesperson for military forces in Gedo region in southern Somalia said in an interview with Shabelle Media Network that they have never been paid as long as they have been working with Somali government.
Mr. Barre went on to say that they heard pledges and commitments from Abdihakim Hajji Mohamoud Fiqi, the minister of defense, saying that all Somali government forces will be regularly paid soon.
He said that they the ministry of defense failed to meet its commitments to the government soldiers and their officials.
The military official called for ministry to pay their monthly payments regularly to defeat Al shabaab fighters who control much of southern and central Somalia.
