A married couple have died after being hit by a car in Largs, North Ayrshire.
The 87-year-old man and his 84-year-old wife were crossing the A78 Greenock Road, at the town's sea front, when they were hit by a red Toyota at 09:15.
The husband died at the scene and his wife was airlifted to Glasgow's Southern General, where she died a few hours later.
The driver, a 34-year-old woman, was not injured but was taken to Inverclyde Hospital as a precaution.
The Greenock Road, between Nelson Street and Brisbane Road, was closed for most of the day while investigations were carried out.
Police have appealed for witnesses and said a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal.
