Luanda – The Culture Deputy Minister, Cornélio Caley said on Monday in Luanda that Angola records a lot of progresses in the standardisation and harmonisation of the alphabet of at least six vernacular languages.
The official said so to Angop on the fringes of the closing ceremony of the the first workshop on “Harmonisation and standardization of national languages”, run by the Ministry of Culture on 14-15 March in Luanda.
According to him, the vernacular languages of Kikongo, Kimbundo, Cokwe, N'haneka Humbe, N'ganguela, Umbundo and Kuanhama have already their own alphabet.
He regretted the absences of Khoisan representative, due to the inexistence of language experts of this etnolinguistic area.
The meeting was attended by language experts from Angola, Ghana, Zambia, Mozambique, Namibia and Botswana.
