United Nations Secretary-General Ban ki-Moon has appointed Sahle-Work Zewde of Ethiopia as the director general in the newly created United Nations Office in Nairobi.

Mrs Zewde is currently the Special Representative and head of the United Nations Integrated Peace Building Office in the Central African Republic.

Prior to this, she was a Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. She has also served as a director general for African affairs in her country’s Foreign Affairs docket, posts she held since 2006.

Zewde, a science graduate from the University of Montpellier, has also served as an Ambassador to France and Djibouti, and a Permanent Representative to the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation accredited to Tunisia and Morocco.
