Somalia: District commissioner injured in Mogadishu attack

Somali government forces have reportedly wounded a Mogadishu district commissioner and his team in the restive capital on Sunday.

Abdullahi Sahal Gardhub, Hamarweyne district commissioner and his guards were riding on a personal car when they came under attack, leaving them wounded.

Gardhub and three of his guards were admitted in Medina Hospital.

“Somali military are responsibility for the attack against my team. We were going to mediate between Somali fishermen and the country’s navy,” said the slightly injured commissioner.

The defense ministry is yet to comment about the incident however, a Somali police commander called Col. Ali Hirsi Gab termed the incident as unfortunate, adding that they could not do anything about it at the moment.

Somali forces maintain high alert as Al-Shabaab insurgents usually speed off near government positions to carry out explosions and gunfire attack.
