MOGADISHU (Mareeg)—A roadside bomb has targeted an al Shabaab official in 30 Street in Mogadishu overnight where the Islamist rebels control, witnesses said on Monday.
Shiekh Fu’ad Mohamed Qalaf known as Shongole has reportedly survived the assassination attempt after the roadside bomb damaged his vehicle that he was traveling in Bar Ubah neighborhood in Mogadishu on Monday evening.
No group has claimed the responsibility of the attack and there is no word from al Shabaab yet.
Witnesses say al Shabaab gunmen have shot dead three people in the area after the explosion. Some reports suggest that the three dead people were Hizbul Islam militias.
The move comes as an official from Hzibul Islam held a press conference in Mogadishu and claimed responsibility of a fighting that was driven al Shabaab out of Dhobley town.
