Puntland court hands death sentence to MP killerin 23 Jan 23, 2010 - 10:50:19 AM A court

somalia’s semi-autonomous state of Puntland has sentenced a man to death after finding him guilty of the murder of a lawmaker.

Abdi Fatah Ahmed Dahir Qodah was accused of killing Lawmaker Abdullahi Ali Osman on January 5 in the commercial city of Bossasso, the capital of Bari region.

Ahmed Mohamed Yussuf (Tarane), Puntland’s government prosecutor told the court that Qodax committed the heinous act in a bid to put the security of the region in jeopardy.

In an interview with Garowe Online, Tarane said at least 7 witnesses have testified against the killer, adding that the bullets contained in his gun match the one used in the murder of the lawmaker.

It’s the first for a Puntland court to deliver death sentence to the people believed to be behind the killings of prominent persons in the region.

At least four prominent officials, including three lawmakers serving Puntland parliament and a high court judge have been killed for the last three months.

Puntland security forces are holding suspects who are accused of killing two lawmakers and are plans to bring them before the court.
