Uganda Government News: UPDF soldiers to earn 2 million in Somalia

He says African Union is to pay a lump sum of 2 million as monthly salary to the low ranked peace keeper in Somalia with effect from January this year.
The Commander in Charge of Infantry Lieutenant General Katumba Wamala has disclosed that the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) deployed in the war-torn Somalia are going to benefit from this good payments.

Gen. Katumba says that the money might be seen as much but the service the Peace Keepers offer is really worth it.

The General however, says that the sending of the troops to Somalia is not about the money but to render assistance and honoring the African Union guidelines.

The 2 million shillings salary to a soldier in Somalia makes an increment of about 700% compared 200,000-300,000 shilling to a soldier working in Uganda.

It still means that a soldier at a rank of a private in Somalia earns more than a Resident District Commissioner (RDC) and equal to a degree holder and experienced Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) in Uganda.

Uganda yesterday sent more 1,800 troops to Somalia yesterday to make the last batch and withdrew 83 who were received by Gen Katumba at Entebbe Airport at the same day.
