The clan elders from Hiraan region in central Somalia and some of them from Somali inhabited region in eastern Ethiopia have been arrested in the town.

The motive behind their detention is not known, but some reports say the elders were trying to negotiate the release of Somali teenagers jailed by the Ethiopian troops in the region.
