Clashes between members of the Boko Haram sect and the police in July 2009 left hundreds dead.
The violence started when the sect members attacked a police station in Maiduguri before clashes spread to neighbouring areas.
Over the past couple of months, the group has been blamed for the killings of dozens of security operatives in northern Nigeria.
And in the last few days a Muslim cleric opposed to Boko Haram was killed.
Journalist Andrew Walker has been investigating their activities and managed to speak to some members of the group in Maiduguri.
