Church blasts Sata over gays

By JIMMY CHIBUYE
A COPPERBELT faith-based organisation has joined other institutions and individuals in condemning Patriotic Front (PF) president Michael Sata’s claim that Zambian laws recognise homosexuality.
Life Gospel Fellowship Ministries International general overseer Joseph Kazhila said in a statement issued in Lusaka on March 21 that Mr Sata’s support for homosexuality is contrary to the provisions of the Zambian constitution.
“It is so unfortunate, appalling and disgusting for such a prominent politician to make such shameful and disgraceful pronouncements meant to possibly appease donors,” Bishop Kazhila said.
He said Mr Sata has exposed himself, and is reaping what he sowed because the Constitution forbids same sex affairs.
Bishop Kazhila said homosexuality is part of Satanism and an abomination, which should not be allowed in Zambia.
“If allowed, there will be so many divorces, and if anything, our laws must be stiffened so that we remain as a remnant of moral fibre in the world,” he said.
The clergyman said Zambians should be above their political alliances and unite in condemning, isolating and resisting such leaders.
Bishop Kazhila said people advocating homosexuality should be avoided so that they are not entrusted with the responsibility of ruling the country.
He said the exposure of Mr Sata has come at the right time for Zambians to make informed decisions concerning the country’s political leaders.
“The Lord Jesus Christ declared that ‘you shall know them by their fruits’, and that ‘out of the abundance of one’s heart, the mouth speaks’. He went further to say that ‘by your words you shall be condemned or justified’,” he said.
Bishop Kazhila said Zambians should be wary of some presidential candidates, newspapers and non-governmental organisations that have come together to advocate homosexuality.
Bishop Kazhila said the Bible says gay rights and evil affairs come about when God gives up on evil people.
