Mo Farah hopes he can continue his current form into next summer's Olympic Games after winning the New York City half-marathon on his debut over the distance. Farah, who stepped up to the 13.1 mile distance just a fortnight after winning European indoor gold at the 3000 metres, still had plenty in the tank as he outsprinted Ethiopia's Gebre Gebremariam and training partner Galen Rupp to claim victory.
Farah is enjoying a golden year after clinching the 5,000m and 10,000m double at the European Championships in Barcelona last summer before going on set a new British 5,000m record.
Having relocated to Oregon to link up with coach Alberto Salazar, Farah has set his sights on moving up to a full marathon, but not until after London 2012.
"I'm definitely in the best form of my life," Farah said. "I don't know what's next but I'm in great shape. I would like to test myself over the marathon after 2012, but I still like the track and feel I have a few years left in me on the track."
Meanwhile, in the women's race Jo Pavey finished sixth in her first half-marathon. Pavey, who is set to race in the London Marathon next month, was happy with her debut over 13.1 miles.
"I would have liked a higher position but I'm very, very encouraged by the time as it's my first race in six months," Pavey said. "It was a tough field but time-wise I'm fairly pleased and I think that will stand me in good stead for London."
