SOMALIA: Alhu Sunna and Ethiopian forces crackdown on illegal administration

ERIGAVO — Forces loyal to Somalia’s Sufi militant arrested at least three people in central Somalia on Saturday, eyewitnesses said.
Alhu Sunna loyalists took three people into custody saying they will face a local court for entering the central town of Abudwaq illegally. They claim the trio have arrived from aboard to set up a new semi-autonomous region similar to Puntland in northern Galguduud region.
Sheikh Mahad Khalin Roble, head of Alhu Sunna Community Affairs, told local reporters that they received orders from senior leadership to bring the three belonging to the proposed Somali Central State (SCS) administration in front of a court. He added they plan to arrest more supporters of SCS in the coming days from the towns of Abudwaq and Guri Eel.
The arrests in Abudwaq comes hours after Ethiopian federal police stormed a hotel in Addis Ababa and detained two Somali nationals. They are said to be the self-proclaimed President of proposed Somali Central State, Mr. Mohamed Hashi Arabey and his vice.
They are believed to be on their way to Galkayo in Galmudug-Puntland region and were expected to hold talks with the Puntland regional administration.
Until now its not clear to why Ethiopia arrested the two.
Ahlu Sunna are Sufi militia made up of religious clerics and former warlords who insist they have been prosecuted under al-Shabab. They are said to be pro-government even though they are not at good terms with the transitional government led by former cleric Sheikh Sharif. In recent weeks, they said the government was claiming all the credit for battles raging across central and southern Somalia against al-Shabab. They also claim they do not have enough representatives within the TFG.
Since the collapse of Somalia’s central government of Mohamed Siad Bare in 1991, most regions set up their own autonomous administrations after losing hope in a unified Somalia and many more are expected to follow. The Somali Central State was the latest autonomous administration to be announced in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, months ago.
