Nairobi — Augustine Mahiga, the United Nations special representative for Somalia is trying to mediate between Somalia's president, Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and the speaker of Somali parliament over parliament's term extension by three years.
Thus, Mr. Mahiga has on Friday met with Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adam, the parliament speaker in Nairobi to persuade him to cancel the decision of mandate extension by the parliament.
Shabelle's reporter in Nairobim Mohammed Nur Mas'ud reports that Augustine Mahiga told Hassan how the international community is sorry for Somali parliament's move.
Mas'ud has went on to say that some Somali transitional federal government ministers and lawmakers have attended the meeting and journalists were invited in scene.
This meeting comes one day after it was announced Somalia's presidential election will be held in Mogadishu before August in the first time after 20 years.
