Somalia: Dobley town fighting kills four

At least three people have been killed and five injured in Dobley a Somali-Kenyan border town in clashes between Pro-Somali government soldiers and Al-Shabaab militants on Friday, Witnesses told Garowe Online.

The Pro-Somali government forces alongside Raskamboni militia attacked Al-Shabaab militias base in Dobley town in southern Somalia on Thursday evening and fighting and mortars shell between them continued Friday morning.

Residents confirmed the Pro-government soldiers heavily shelled mortars to the town and seized Dobley from Al-Shabaab but later Al-Shabaab captured back the city from Pro-government troops and their allied militia.

The clashes destroyed residential buildings and forced dozens of residents to leave the town and seek shelter in neighbouring villages, witnesses said told GO.
In the last weeks Somali government troops backed Raskamboni Islamists and Al-Shabaab radical militias were fighting in Dobley town.

Meanwhile, Fighting between Somali government troops backed by African Union forces and Al-Shabaab militias in Somali capital Mogadishu injured four civilians in Boondheere district on Friday night.

Both of the warring sides exchanged mortars shell and gun fire in the restive capital of Somalia.

Al-Shabaab extremist militias control much of south and central Somalia regions including large parts of the capital, the militias are fighting with Somali week transitional government and African Union Troops to take over the control of the country.

Somalia has had no functioning central government for the last two decades.  The country became a safe haven for extremist militias and pirates. Over 21,000 Somalis have been killed in the violence since the start of 2007 and 1.5 million forced to flee from their homes.
