American strike in the south of Somalia against a member of Al Qaeda

April 03, 2011 - The United States launched a military strike against a town in southern Somalia during the night from Sunday to Monday, targeting, according to the Pentagon a member of Al Qaeda. Local chiefs four reported civilian casualties.
An official American military in Washington said, under cover of anonymity, that the American army had fired at least one cruise missile, adding that the American military was "still trying to assess the damage and the effectiveness "of the shooting.

Earlier, local leaders and the spokesman of the insurgents had reported air strikes on the city of Dhoble, 500 km southwest of the Somali capital, on the border with Kenya.

The United States operates in Djibouti, a few kilometres from Somalia, their only military base in Africa, a pillar of their counter-terrorism in Africa.

Depuis début 2007, les Etats-Unis sont déjà intervenus militairement à deux reprises en Somalie dans le cadre de leur lutte contre le terrorisme. Since early 2007, the United States is already intervened militarily twice in Somalia as part of their fight against terrorism.

In June 2007, an American vessel had bombed targets suspected of belonging to al-Qaeda in north-eastern Somalia, while in January of that year, the U.S. Air Force had conducted at least two raids in southern Somalia against suspected members of Al-Qaeda, killing at least one hundred according to traditional chiefs.
