SOMALIA: An American citizen and senior Shabab commander says he is alive

Mogadishu (LWJ/RBC) The American born Shabab commander, Omar Hammami has mocked reports of his death in a song released on a jihadist website.
Omar Hammami, who is also use the name ‘Abu Mansoor al Amriki’, released a nasheed, [Islamic song], on the Al Qimmah Islamic Network, a propaganda website for the al Qaeda linked Shabaab.
Somalia defense minister, Abdihakim Haji Mahamud Fiqi claimed that Omar Hammami was killed in recent fighting in Mogadishu beyween al Shabab rebels and the government forces.
The Long War Journal reported on March 15 that Omar Hammami was not killed citing military sources.
“Send me a cruise like Maa’lam Adam al Ansari, And send me a couple of tons like Zarqawi, And send me a drone like Abu Laith al Libi, And Special Forces like Saleh Ali Nabhan,” the opening chorus begins.
“Send me all four and send me much much more, I pray for that on my way to heavens door,” the chorus continues.
Abu Musab al Zarqawi, the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, was killed by bombs launched in a US airstrike in Baqubah, Iraq in June 2006; Abu Laith al Libi, the leader of al Qaeda’s Brigade 055, was killed in a US Predator airstrike in Pakistan in January, 2008. Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan, the top leader of Shabaab and al Qaeda’s network in East Africa, was killed during a US Special Operations Forces helicopter raid in Somalia in September 2009. The identity of Maa’lam Adam al Ansari is unknown, but Hammami claimed he was killed in a cruise missile strike. The US has launched cruise missiles at al Qaeda and Shabaab commanders in Yemen and Somalia.
Hammami has released similar propaganda in the past. In May 2010 in which he promised he will die as martyrdom only.
Who is Omar Hammami?
Hammami is a US citizen who converted to Islam and then traveled to Somalia in 2006. Once in Somalia, he quickly rose through the ranks.
Omar Hammami is one of the leading Somali Islamist paramilitary group officials.  Sources tell RBC Radio that he ussually travells to different locations in Southern parts of Somalia.
He was seen several times in the frontline in some part of Mogadishu, defected Shabab fighters told the media in February.
Omar Hammami is reported to have high military training and gives training to shabab fighters in hidden camps in Somalia.
He is also one of 14 persons indicted by the US government.
