This woman is called a Giraffe not for nothing. Her neck length is 11 inches! The name is an appropriate one, as both humans and giraffes have the same number of bones in their necks! But what is an average human neck length?

Some scientific facts about humans and animals are amazing. One of them is that if you are to make an x-ray of a human neck and giraffe one, they both would have the same number of bones.

This Giraffe woman has the same number of them as any of us. However, her neck length is amazing, as the majority of us have only 5 inches long necks.

Hers is 11 inches! The name of the lady is Sydney V. Smith and she is 28 years of age. She comes from Los Angeles. She was not born with such a long neck, but she did all she could to extend it. You may have seen the photos of those Kayan Lahwi tribes, where they use neck rings to make female necks longer. They mostly live in Burma and Thailand.

She has managed to put 11 copper ones on her neck. She would put the rings on for the night and started it from a very young age. Over the years everyone around her noticed that her neck grew longer. Longer does not mean better in this case. Over a time her muscles failed to support her head. She also has a hard time turning her head from side to side and it takes longer while for her to do so.

The lady also experiences one sensitive problem. When it is hot, her neck starts sweating excessively. After all hot climate is not the best for a Giraffe woman, as she smells bad!

Scientists say that the neck extension rings do not help the body to grow longer neck bones. Instead the pull the skin and move the bones apart. In those tribes, where women wear the rings, if they take them off, the neck gets broken and they die. That is one of the ways to conduct death penalty there.  We hope lady giraffe still would be able to live a long and healthy life
