According to the agreement between the brewer and girl’s father, the man will be sipping two bottles of chang’aa every day until the dowry is completed.
The girl will will now become the the wife of the chang’aa dealer as her father continues to reduce the dowry payment by drinking the illicit brew everyday.

The incident has angered area leaders including MP Boniface Otsiula, who has demanded that the man be arrested and charged.
Ostiula has requested the police to detain the brewer and ensure the girl goes back to school adding that such incidences will deteriorate education standards in the area.
Bumula has always lagged behind in education because of early pregnancies and high rate of school drop outs. The man should be taken to court to serve as an example to others who may have the same behaviour,” he said.

Area woman representative Reginald Wanyonyi also asked Bungoma county commissioner Joshua Chepchieng to take speedy action on the matter.
Education is the only key that can liberate the girl child from poverty and make her self reliance,” Wanyonyi said.
