The Jubilee coalition has been warned after reports emerged that it was planning to give Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala a direct nomination for the Mombasa gubernatorial election.
Influential Mombasa businessman and Jubilee gubernatorial aspirant, Suleiman Shahbal said anyone who wanted the coalition’s party ticket should face it off with other candidates at the ballot box.
“Do not fear competition, whether internal or external. We will meet at the ballot,” Shahbal said.
Shahbal said he was not afraid of competition from Balala or any other leader and was ready for the challenge to see who will take the nomination to face current Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho in 2017.
“If Balala and any other person want to challenge me, they are welcome. I am ready for anybody,” the businessman said.
Businessman Suleiman Shahbal lost the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominations for 2013 gubernatorial election to Hassan Joho.
The businessman then defected to the Wiper party but lost again to Joho during the general election.
After the election loss Shahbal filed an election petitin against Joho but the court dismissed it.
