Wrong way crash driver injured in Carlisle bridge jump

Cumbria Police said the car he was in had been seen speeding at 2250 BST on Friday by officers on patrol.

A motorist who drove the wrong way down a road in Carlisle causing a crash was seriously hurt when he jumped from a bridge following the incident.
When blue lights were used, he drove along the wrong carriageway of Castle Way and struck two other vehicles, before the man jumped from a bridge.
Four other people were injured and taken to hospital.
The police spokesman said: "It is believed that the vehicle entered the wrong carriageway and travelled towards oncoming traffic.
Head-on crash
"The police vehicle remained on the correct carriageway and attempted to warn other road users."
One of the collisions was head-on.
The spokesman said: "It is believed that the driver then exited and subsequently jumped from a nearby bridge."
He was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary, where he is in a serious condition.
The four other injured people were taken to the Cumberland Infirmary, in Carlisle.
An investigation has started and police are appealing for any witnesses.
