Heavy shooting has taken place at the home of Guinean President Alpha Conde in the country's capital, Conakry.
Unknown assailants attacked Mr Conde's private residence, eyewitnesses said.
Forces loyal to Mr Conde repelled the attack after an hour-long shoot-out, reports say. Unconfirmed reports say one person was killed in the attack.
Mr Conde was elected president last year after a military junta, which seized power in 2008, returned the country to civilian rule.
The BBC's Alhassan Sillah in Conakry says the army has been deployed in the streets, but the situation is now calm.
An official in the president's office told AFP news agency that President Conde was unhurt.
"He is safe and sound," said Francois Fall.
