Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan together with First Lady Emine Erdogan arrived in the country on Wednesday evening June 1, 2016 for a three-day state visit.
The president, who was also accompanied by other Turkish political and business leaders, was welcomed by a Kenyan delegation led by Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohamed.
President Erdogan’s visit is aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two countries in various areas.
According to the CS, these include defense, regional peace and security, agriculture, water, transport, education and health.
“The business forum will identify investment and trade opportunities for the Turkish companies in Kenya. Through Turkey International Cooperation and Coordination Agency, Turkey will donate farm implements to six counties,”shared Mohamed on Twitter.
Before embarking on his trip to Kenya, the Turkish president described his visit alongside Turkey’s high-ranking government officials and prominent businessmen as a historic one, aimed at promoting closer collaboration with allies in Africa, to “come up with solutions to common challenges and explore equally beneficial opportunities”.
“Many people in the world associate the African continent with extreme poverty, violent conflict and a general state of hopelessness. The people of Turkey have a different view. We believe that Africa deserves better,” President Erdogan had said.
Together with his team, he will head to Uganda and Somalia after Kenya.
The visit comes immediately after another one by South Korean president Park Geun-hye.
Kenya signed several deals with the South Korean government following bilateral talks between presidents Geun-hye and Uhuru Kenyatta, including the establishment of a vital science and technology centre in the country.
